Rezumat

Sturdza family’s library, which contained 203 units, was transferred from the Regional Library “I. Mecinikov” in Odessa to the National Library of Moldova in 1970-1971. All of the books were stamped “Стурдзовская библиотека (Sturdza’s library)” and, of course, they formed the basis of the former library of Sturdza’s dynasty. Four or five generations contributed to the collecting of the books. If we take as a point of orientation the timeline of the publishing of the books, then from the appearance of the first book “Theofilact of Bulgaria’s interpretations”, conducted by Augustine Lindsell and translated into Latin by F. Montaine (London, 1636), till the book written by Washington Irving (1846) there are 210 years. That means that the library was established in Vasile Lupu’s time, in the year when the future scholar Nicolae Milescu Spatarul was born, and shortly before the apparition of the first book printed in the language of the country – “Cazania” by Varlaam.
