The Bessarabian book in the collections of the Clerical Academy library in Sankt Petersburg (end of the 19th - beginning of the 20th centuries). Many Bessarabian clerical books what ended up in foreign collections are now lying forgotten in the Clerical Academy libraries of Sankt Petersburg and Moscow as well as in the monastic libraries on the Holly Mountain. This paper is a small contribution to this subject and an attempt to uncover a very small part of those books - just 7 titles what are currently part of the Collections of St. Petersburg Clerical Academy Library. These titles include few books published in Sankt Petersburg for Bessarabia: Noul Testament (The New Testament) 1817, 1819, Biblia (The Bible) 1819, Gramatica lui Iacob Hancu (Iacob Hincu’s Grammar) 1840, as well as 4 titles published in Chisinau by the Clerical Publisher of Bessarabia: Bucoavnă, 1863, Ceasoslov, 1907; Psaltire 1908; Acatist, 1910. There are documented evidences that mandatory copy of every title published in Chisinau in the Tsarist Period (1812-1918) was sent to the public collections of St. Petersburg. During the research on the subjectwere found rare editions with unique value such as „ Valachian-moldavian Chrestomathy (1840)” by Iacob Hancu or „Bucoavna basarabeană” 1863. The destiny of our cultural treasures that ended up in foreign collections is often uncertain. The odyssey of the Bessarabian book throughout national history is very symbolic, as the books represent the core of the cultural unity. A monographic research should asses and restore the value of our lost patrimony and gather our heritage books scattered through foreign collections. |
