Rezumat

Authoritarianism implies a core of attitudes, or more precisely the tendency to answer in the same manner to certain categories of stimuli. It is a combination of three factors in the same person: obedience before the legitimate authorities; aggressiveness directed towards the targets officially established by the leaders of the systems; the strict observance of social conventions. Authoritarian people are not necessarily refined from an intellectual point of view; often, they might sustain contradictory ideas or use double standards in their social evaluations, and possess a dogmatic thinking. Collective mind of the Romanian people still contains a core of such attitudes, prejudices and stereotypes. The transformation process is evolving slowly not only at the individual level, but also at the level of public institutions. Too many Romanians are still dominated by personal frustrations and options, the persistence of such attitudes representing a potential danger for stability.
