The foundation of the interstate relations is established on the normative base of the cooperation between states which includes the relevant documents concerning the areas of cooperation and the totality of clauses regulating the principles of cooperation. The bilateral political-legal framework between the Republic of Moldova and the French Republic constitutes 14 bilateral documents regulating the following areas of cooperation: commercial-economic, technical-scientific, the defense, the reciprocal protection of the investments, the agriculture and the rural development, international road transports of goods, e tc. The main treaties and agreements signed between France and Republic of Moldova are: the Protocol on the establishment of diplomatic relations frame-work between the Republic of Moldova and the French Republic; the Protocol of cooperation between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova and the French Republic; the Treaty of friendship, understanding and co-operation; the Agreement on cultural, scientific and technical cooperation; the Agreement on encouragement and mutual protection of investments; the Protocol on understanding between the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of Republic of Moldova and the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries of the French Republic in the field of agriculture and rural development; the Agreement of double non-taxing and of the fight against the fiscal evasion; the Agreement of cooperation in the field of the cultural patrimony.
