This critical review presents an in depth analysis of Theodor Damian’s work in the fields of poetry, theology and literary criticism. After a detailed overview of many commentators who wrote about Damian’s poetry, this essay places his work in the general context of Romanian contemporary literature and explains the inner connection between theology and poetry in this author’s creative writing. The essay’s conclusion is that Damian’s poetry places a special emphasis on knowledge, yet never gets lost in gnosis, which gives a special dramatic existential dimension to his literary production.
