The three classical strategic options for international expansion are exports, foreign direct investment and licensing. Strategic planning in a multinational company has a dual task: the identification of the most relevant strategic options and reducing those to a best plan. This translates into the determination of the optimal forms of the activities on a given foreign market and of the moment in which these forms are changing.
