La baza metodei a fost pus principiul construirii unei figuri geometrice pe ortopantomograme, care demonstrează amplasarea primilor molari mandibulari unul faţă de altul, iar la lipsa lor — a molarilor doi, fapt ce determină structura simetrică sau asimetrică a arcadelor dentare. Această metodă permite de a aprecia şi gradul de înclinare a acestor dinţi, când ei mărginesc breşa arcadei dentare. S‑a stabilit, că gradul de asimetrie la prezenţa breşelor arcadelor dentare cl. III Kennedy este în dependenţă directă de vechimea lipsei dinţilor, vârsta pacientului şi posibilităţile de compensare a sistemului dento‑maxilar în totalitate.

The method rests on the principle of constructing a geometrical figure on the orthopantomograms, this reflecting the arrangement of the 1st mandibular molars one against the other and, in their absence, of the 2 nd molars — a fact determining the symmetrical or asymmetrical structure of dental arches. The method also permits the assessment of the degree of tooth inclination, when the tooth is adjacent to dental arch edentation. It has been established that the degree of asymmetry in the presence of dental arch edentations class III Kennedy is directly dependent upon the edentation duration, age of patient and the compensating posibilities of the dentomaxillary system as a whole.
