Articulated language did not prevent human from continuing to use nonverbal means. Although the teacher communicates verbally by answering students' questions, asking questions and reacting with a "yes" or "no," he communicates nonverbally by pointing, tilting his head, raising his hands, moving toward the student, and so on. Through facial expressions, gestures, body position, posture and distance maintained, a greater number of interpersonal messages can be transmitted than by any other means. Nonverbal communication is a complex process, which includes human, the movements of the human body and his state of mind. The teacher's verbal and nonverbal cues shape student behavior. In the work submitted by the teacher, it matters not only what is said, but also what feelings, what representations, what images suggest the teacher's reason, what thoughts students will have based on plastic and expressive improvisation with the help not only of the word but also of the gesture, facial expressions and proxemics. The teacher can use the dramatic break intentionally, as well as the comedy actor. He can use it very simply, saying "Look here." As he speaks, he can present a book, hold his hand up premeditatedly, and wait. His pause in verbal and body movement gives students the time to focus on that book. The break can be used after the 10-th question has been asked and before the student has been indicated to answer, or after a significant remark has been made. In didactic communication, verbal and nonverbal communication form a well-structured, complex and convergent whole. Although they do not have the same decoding regimes and rhythms, the lack of one or the other makes communication difficult. Nonverbal communication is 4.5 times faster decoded (interpreted, understood) than verbal communication; nonverbal communication gives meaning to the message (a gesture, a blink, a mime, etc.) all these signals can repeat, contradict, replace, complete or accentuate the message transmitted by words. |
