The Twenty-first Century, known as the Century of Great Discoveries, is also the Century of Great Confrontations related to personality formation. Modern society is experiencing a major crisis of development, due to social disintegration and loss of morale which has attended and followed into a critical time for all people. More vulnerable in this regard are adolescents. The teenagers are forced to live in an environment where the desire for pleasures, the tendency towards excessive luxury, abuse and violence are widely shown on TV and Internet, spoken, sung and acclaimed as normal. It is extremely sad that all these examples that in our century are encouraged, lead to depression, despair, physical violence, rape and in some cases to suicide among younger generation. According to a study by the World Health Organization (WHO), every fourth teenager has mental health problems. More and more adolescents complain of nervous breakdowns, agitation, anxiety and states of irritation. All these factors are very worrying for the whole society. Even if the Code of the Republic of Moldova about Education stipulates in Article 4, point 2 that through its policy in the field of education, the state ensures the realization of the educational ideals and goals, the formation of national consciousness and identity and the promotion of general-human values. The result is still unsatisfying. Modern teenagers are hedonistic (to obtain pleasures), without focusing on being responsible of themselves and bearing all the hardships of life. The most common problems teenagers face today are: alcohol and drug use, gambling addiction, depression, bullying, peer pressure that lead to low self-esteem, sexual activity at a very young age, obesity and materialism. In conclusion, we are concerned that an education in the spirit of moral values would prevent the degradation of the human-being and liquidate its moral void. The moral values of the society we live in falls upon adolescent personality and its educational ideas, so it is very important that they are selected well to significantly develop the authentic moral consciousness and a healthy behaviour of the younger generation. |
