Abstract: The concept of the health information system derives from the statement that measuring the health of the population is fundamental for improving their health. An assessment of the health status of the community, based on statistical information regarding health indicators or factors related to them, is required for the planning and evaluation of health services. For many years, the health status of a population has been assessed using certain indicators and mainly through indicators such as: age-specific mortality rates and causes of death or life expectancy at birth. Routine health indicators provide general data on overall mortality and morbidity from people using health services. These data do not cover or reflect indicators from people who have not requested medical care. As the cause-of-death pattern has shifted from acute diseases as the leading cause of death, to chronic and degenerative diseases, mortality rates and life expectancy at birth have no longer been able to accurately reflect reality. If we widen the area of classical (negative) indicators for the description of health, mortality, morbidity, disability should be taken into account; discomfort and dissatisfaction forming the list of the 5 "D-indicators" of the assessment of health. However, there are also positive indicators that can describe the state of health. Positive health is a concept with increasing use that includes not only the absence of disease but also mental and physical well-being, full functionality, individual abilities, social support, mental and physical performance. All of these positive states have been defined in the literature as positive health, social health, and health associated with quality of life. |
