The emergence of Bessarabian question in international relations was not only a result of Soviet-Romanian Territorial Dispute by reason of annexation by the Romanian royal of Dniester-Pruth interfluve. However, this question was not a consequence of the Romanian elite aspirations to create a so-called “Great Romania”. Additionally, it should be noted that without the support of Western powers, which since the end of World War One sought to quell the global communism and its main bastion – Soviet Russia, Romania never would have dared to think about the transition from the dream of “unification of all Romanian lands” to its implementation. Incidentally, it was the desire of the bourgeois world of the suppression of Soviet power in Russia, and the intention of the West to weaken Russia’s geopolitical potential, having amassed against her a wide coalition, with the participation of all so-called “limitrophe countries”, including Romania. Thus Bessarabian question had spawned. Romania has allowed to seize Bessarabia as a payment for “struggle against Bolshevism”. In this sense Bessarabian had reflected both a clash of interests of various international actors and different vectors of development of international relations. These should include: the fight against “global communist revolution” and the creation of “sanitary cordon” against the penetration of Bolshevism in the West, geopolitical aspirations of leading western powers in order to obtain a convenient staging ground for ousting Russia to the east and the control over the Danube delta, plans of Bucharest to form “Greater Romania”, as well as the inevitable subordination of the expanded Romanian state to the interests of the victorious powers in World War II.
