The assurance of the freedom of expression is one of the main priorities settled in the Plan of Actions for the European integration of the Republic of Moldova. The Plan provides both the implementation of a legislative frame to guarantee the freedom of expression according to European standards and recommendations of the
Council of Europe and the assurance of the transparency of relations between authorities and mass media. The norms of freedom of expression and information, provided by the Group of Experts named by the General Secretary defined very clearly for the Moldavian authorities the tasks that should be achieved. The application of recommendations proves the initiation to fi t the European standards in mass media of the Republic of Moldova. Thus, in order to guarantee the freedom of expression, it is welcome to elaborate and implement the conception that will support and consolidate the media sector that provides the state support of independent media. The European officials are disposed to continue the negotiations with the Republic of Moldova for signing an “Association Agreement” in concordance with the internal reforms dynamics to respect human rights, law state
and democracy. Besides, European officials emphasized the necessity of respecting the freedom of expression and political transparency during the next parliamentary elections. |
