The European Union is a pyramid top, to which aspires Moldova, a small country, the history of which knows the grim and painful battles for the existence and independent development. The year of 1991 is crucial in the history of this area. This is a year when this area became the Republic of Moldova – “a sovereign and independent, unitary and indivisible state” (paragraph (1) of Article 1 of the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova adopted on July 29, 1994). Namely from this period the problem of the European integration arouses a political, economic and social, theoretical and practical interest.
After many international actions, the Republic of Moldova succeeds to provoke interest of the EU in it, which favored its more productive development in many fields. But after the events of 2007, when Romania became the EU member, the Republic of Moldova acquires a new statute in relations with the Union – a neighbor and near-boundary state. Thanks to this fact, Moldova together with the other neighbor states is involved in the new policy launched by the EU, the European Vicinity Policy. And, in spite of many negative positions at the internal level on the European vicinity, the results obtained from the European Vicinity Policy show the enormous potential and the positive possibilities of the Republic of Moldova for its eventual adherence in the EU. |
