Elite track and field athletes performances at the XXX Olympic Games, 2013 and 2015 World Championships (n = 288) and the Diamond League competitions have been analyzed. Conducted studies have allowed to outline two main approaches to participation of elite athletes in the competitions. The first approach envisages strict focusing on successful participation in the major competitions of the year and quadrennium (Olympic Games, World Championships) and is successfully realized by the majority (81 %) of the world best athletes. The second approach targets the athlete at the efficient combination of the competitive activity so that to achieve success at the Olympic Games, the World Championships and the Diamond League competitions. It is successfully realized by 19 % of track and field athletes. |
