Strategies of critical thinking show that the responsability for the success at language learning in high school rests with students’ability to know how to learn. This article highten an awarness of how to learn languages applying certain thinking approaches. There is a development from lower-order thinking to higherorder thinking which leads from basic comprehension to creative thinking and, finally,critical thinking being the most proeminent. The importance of digital and media grows in the twenty-first century. The evaluation is more important than the acquisition of information. Students need to be equipped with critical thinking in the receptive skills: reading and listening; in productive skills: writing and speaking; and also in the twenty-first century skills: technology of information and communication. Learning vocabulary means to understand it semantically and contextually. When learning how to read and listen a foreign language students must be encouraged to examine texts for their rigor, objectivity and validity and to deepen their engagement.Incorporating twenty-first century literacies help students to become more competent global communicators.
