Background. Oral pathologies are among the most common diseases in the world. However, they do not affect all members of the population to the same extent, with differences based on various geographical, social, and economic factors of a given patient. Objective of the study. to analyze characteristics of patients who visited the dentist during the year of 2020 and to determine if there is a link between their socioeconomic status and oral health. Material and Methods. The study included 50 patients with various oral pathologies, who were treated in the department of Dental surgery at the Dental Municipal Center in Chișinău. The anamnesis of the patients was collected, they were investigated in a clinical and paraclinical manner. Related literature on similar situations were studied. The Student’s t-test was used for statistical analysis. Results. According to the study data, out of the 50 patients analysed, 64%±6.78 were female and 36%± 6.78 were male. Of these, 66%± 6.69 were over 30 years old, and 54%± 7.05 had two or more children. Regarding the place of residence, most of the patients lived in urban areas - 76%±6.03. Regarding highest level of education, 58%±6.97 have not received higher education. In 90%±4.24 of cases, the diagnosis was an inflammatory response. Orthopantomography was the paraclinical examination performed by choice in 88%±4.59 of cases. In 92%±3.83 of cases, the treatment provided was tooth extraction. Conclusion. We can assume that the patient’s level of education and the number of children that they have influences their oral health. Social status impacts the likelihood of patients accessing dental services, thus making the most common treatment of choice to be tooth extraction. |
