Background. Copper is an element of vital importance, which is part of many vitamins, hormones and ferments, but it is toxic in its unbound form, the toxic dose being 250 mg. Liver plays an essential role in the metabolism of copper, which synthesizes ceruloplasmin with a fermentative role. Objective of the study. Evaluation of the possibility of finding the concentration of serum copper by determining the level of ceruloplasmin in the blood plasma. Material and Methods. Search and analysis of data from 80 bibliographic sources on the possibility of finding the concentration of serum copper by the method of determining the level of ceruloplasmin in blood plasma. Results. Ceruloplasmin, in structural terms, is a glycometalloprotein with oxidative action on norepinephrine, serotonin, polyamines and polyphenols. It is also involved in the metabolism of inorganic chemicals as: copper and iron. The copper metabolism can be detected by determining the level of ceruloplasmin in blood plasma as its activity is determined by the presence of copper. The bibliographic sources denote a fast and accurate possibility to evaluate the copper content in the body, based on the direct relationship between the level of ceruloplasmin and copper in the blood plasma. Conclusion. A rapid and accurate method of evaluation of copper concentration in the body is to determine the content of ceruloplasmin in the blood plasma. |
