Background. The cells developed a series of antioxidant agents, which protect against harmful effects of H2O2. Taraxacumofficinale F. H. Wigg (TO) represents an important source of biologically active substances, whose amount depends of growing area, time of harvesting and plants’ part. Objective of the study. To evaluate the influence of dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) TO extracts on erythrocytes’ catalase activity. Material and Methods. The DMSO extracts of dried TO roots and leaves, harvested in May 2017 from a natural habitat of Moldova were tested in triplicate by Ryzhikova S.L. et al. (2011) method, in our modification (2012). The Research Ethics Committee of the “NicolaeTestemitanu” SUMPh approved this study (nr.81 of 19.09.2020). Results. The statistic assays included calculation of mean and standard deviation (M±SD), Mann-Whitney U test (control vs experimental groups, roots vs leaves). The p-values equal or less than 0.05 were considered statistically significant* (GraphPad Prism 8.0).The catalase activity (μM/g.Hb) under the influence of TO leaves extracts was evaluated as 6,84±0,16*, data which represented -86,2% less vs control (49,63±0,38). In case of TO roots extracts catalase activity was reported as 26,17±9,84* vs control evaluated as 45,38±1,22 (-42,3%). By comparing the means, roots vs leaves was concluded that catalase activity in case of leaves extracts is lower with -19,33 μM/g.Hb*. Conclusion. The DMSO extracts of TO posses antioxidant activity. The catalase activity depends of plants’ part and roots are the leaders in its stimulation. |
