Background. Endometriosis, histologically is defined by the presence of endometrial glands and stroma outside the uterus. It can involve several organs from different systems, including the rectum (73%), sigmoid colon (20%), ileum (7%), vermiform appendix, and cecum. Objective of the study. Histopathological and immunohistochemical criteria of differentiation between colorectal cancer and endometriosis. Material and Methods. Macroscopic, microscopic, immunohistological (markers - CD10, PAX2, ER, CK20, CDX2, AMACR) description of the postoperative material in a patient with colorectal cancer and intestinal endometriosis. Clinical and paraclinical data taken from SIAAMS. Literature and case studies on colorectal cancer and endometriosis. Results. The female patient, aged 56, was hospitalized in the Republican Clinical Hospital "Timofei Moşneaga" to confirm the diagnosis and treatment of colorectal cancer. After macroscopic, histological and immunohistochemical examination of postoperative material, the diagnosis was: Moderated adenocarcinoma with invasion in intestinal wall layers and perirectal adipose tissue and identification of glandular structures and endometrial stroma characteristic of Endometriosis Due to the presence of similarities between the glandular structures of colorectal adenocarcinoma and endometriosis there was a need to make this study. Conclusion. Intestinal endometriosis associated with colorectal cancer is relatively rare, and can sometimes lead to errors and difficulties in diagnosis. Sometimes it can be difficult to determine stage (T4) cancer or intestinal endometriosis, being facilitated mainly by immunohistochemistry. |
