We studied the quality of the freshly harvested mass of Romanian cultivars of red fescue Festuca rubra: Căpriora, Cristina and Peisaj created at the Research-Development Institute for Grasslands, Brașov, and cultivated in the experimental plot of the National Botanical Garden (Institute) „Alexandru Ciubotaru”, Chisinau, Republic of Moldova. The amount of dry matter (DM), nitrogen (N), carbon (C), crude protein (CP), crude ash (CA), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), acid detergent fiber (ADF), acid detergent lignin (ADL), cellulose (Cel), hemicellulose (HC), the digestibility of dry matter (DDM), the concentration of hemicellulose (HC), cellulose (Cel), digestible energy (DE), metabolizable energy (ME), net energy for lactation (NEl), relative feed value (RFV) and biomethane production potential were analyzed. In the second growing season, the studied red fescue cultivars were characterized by optimal growth rate and regenerative capacity after mowing, making it possible to cut it two times per season. The results revealed that the harvested fresh mass contained 22.0-33.6% dry matter. It was determined that dry matter content and its biochemical composition varied depending on the cultivar and harvest time. It has been determined that the dry matter of freshly harvested mass of the studied cultivars contained 104-154 g/kg CP, 71-113 g/kg CA, 550-713 g/kg NDF, 335-445 g/kg ADF, 31-52 g/kg ADL, 304- 393 g/kg Cel, 215-268 g/kg HC, 54.2-62.8% DDM, RFV= 71-102, 10.84-12.38 MJ/kg DE, 8.91-10.16 MJ/kg ME and 4.92-6.18 MJ/kg NEl. We found that the fresh mass substrates for anaerobic digestion, have C/N=20-31 and optimal amount of lignin and hemicelluloses, the biochemical methane potential of studied substrates varied from 321 to 363 l/kg ODM. The studied cultivars of Festuca rubra could be used in the Republic of Moldova for the restoration of degraded grasslands, as a component of the mix of grasses-legumes for the creation of temporary grasslands and can be planted between rows in vineyards and orchards, the harvested biomass can be used as feed for animals or as substrate for biomethane production. |
