Background. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, an increasing number of patients with Transient Global Amnesia (TGA) was attested in neurological emergency departments. However, there is limited data on the mechanism of TGA linked with COVID-19, in the convalescence period. Objective of the study. To analyze the possible linkage between SARS-CoV-2 infection and TGA in two patients, during the convalescence state, from the Institute of Emergency Medicine, from March 2021. Material and Methods. We described 2 clinical cases of TGA, manifested during the convalescence period of the COVID-19 infection, in March 2021 from the Institute of Emergency Medicine, Chisinau, Moldova. Results. A 62-year-old man, that suffered a mild form of COVID-19 infection in February 2021, he presented an episode of TGA within one month. Video-EEG showed predominance of slow polymorphic activity in the bilateral temporo-frontal cortical areas, predominantly on the right and the brain MRI was normal. The second case, shows a 68-year-old man with TGA, 4 months after a severe COVID-19 pneumonia. Fronto-temporal, bilateral, cerebral atrophy was established on brain MRI and EEG showed no changes. Conclusion. Novel coronavirus may be implicated in possible pathophysiological mechanisms, involving the frontal and temporal lobes, which might trigger TGA. Further studies are required. |
