Rezumat

The aim of this work was to establish the effect of low concentrations of alpha-zearalanol in feed on embryo development and egg hatchability of laying hens. Methods. The study was conducted at State Poultry Research Station of NAAS on chickens, eggs and incubation wastes. At the age of 35 weeks, 2 groups (control and experimental) were formed from Birkivska Barvista chickens. The first 14 days (age of the flock 35-36 weeks) the bird received standard feed according to age needs. For the next three weeks, the birds of the experimental group received compound feed with an admixture of alpha-zearalanol in the amount of 50 μg / kg (age of the flock 37-39 weeks), hens and roosters of the control group and then received standard feed. Egg hatchability, embryo mortality by incubation periods were assessed. Results. In 14 days after the introduction of alpha-zearalanol into the feed, egg hatchability and fertility of the experimental group increased by 14% and 4.4%, respectively (compared with the period when the birds received standard compound feed). An increase in the hatchability of eggs in the experimental group was due to a decrease in the death of embryos, both in the early and late stages of incubation: the death of embryos in the first week of incubation decreased by 3.4%, in the middle of the incubation period - by 2.5%, and at the end - by 3.7%.An autopsy of the incubation wastes showed that the dead embryos had no syndromes characteristic of embryotoxicosis. The results obtained in the work are explained by the phenomenon of hormesis, in which small doses cause stimulation, and large doses inhibit biological parameters. Conclusions. The stimulating effect of alphazearalanol at the concentration of 50 μg/kg in feed on the embryo development and egg hatchability was revealed. The reduction of embryo death in the late stages of incubation under the influence of zeranol deserves in-depth study as such, which has significant theoretical and practical value. Research is ongoing.
