Rezumat | ||||||
There has already been underlined the Nietzschean inheritance in Emil Cioran’s work.
But the great French literary stylist went deeper than his predecessor in that he criticized even
the pedestal of the Western civilization. In their case, the philosopher was completed with
an essayist, a pamphleteer, a poet and a prophet. Confronted with the 20th century greedy
activism and conformity to rules, Cioran defended the right to be idle. His idleness, however,
was a stronghold wherein contemplation and understanding as superior ways of being
active could survive. Thus, we distinguish a two-faced Cioran – the young and the old one.
The Westerner and the Easterner.
