The following study is concerned with the personal and social function of language. It focuses on the dominant rating of languages and their speakers, with the aim of educating society about the use of multiple languages and deconstructing negative discourses about multilingualism. The study reviews traditional concepts of identity regarding point of view and relevance, and whether language plays a decisive role in these concepts. An implicit measure of linguistic discrimination, namely language abstraction of terms used in Foreigners descriptions, and an explicit measure of affective prejudice, that is, feelings thermometer, were employed. This study proposes that everyone, whether in different languages or in one language with different dialects, can be considered a multilingual speaker and contributes to evidence of linguistic discrimination in the realm of minimal groups when groups differ in their relative social position.
