Rezumat

The Paisian monk community from Neamt Monastery during its evolution (starting from the last decades of the XVII century until the mid XIX century), gave the Orthodox world a distinctive model of spiritual life which implied the return to the very sources of Orthodox monasticism. In this context we can assume with all certainty what it is in the Romanian Orthodoxy space of that particular historical period where the "new Athos" appears blooming with spiritual vitality. This very special phenomenon goes beyond geographical borders of Romanian Principalities and extends over a much larger area of Orthodox countries, particularly in Ukraine and Russia. The initiator of this awakening in Orthodox monasticism was Abbot Paisius Velichkovsky (1722-1794). Among the apprentices of the Paisiene school was Hungarian Wallachia archbishop Gregory IV (1765-1834), known in ecclesiastical history as Gregory the Teacher. This truly enlightened teacher of the Paisiene era was directly involved in the history of Bessarabia in the late 30’s of the XIX century
