After the Russian Revolution of February 1917, in the context of the social-political events that encompassed the entire Russian Empire, the Bessarabian Romanians formulated claims of a national character, placing in the first place the autonomy of Bessarabia. The request for granting autonomy to Bessarabia was submitted for the first time through the newspaper „Cuvânt moldovenesc” („Moldovan word”) of 22 March 1917. Subsequently, this was also expressed in a series of meetings. In particular, obtaining political autonomy for Bessarabia was severely imposed after July 12, 1917, when the intention of the Ukrainian Central Council to include Bessarabia in the composition of Ukraine, which caused a wave of protests, the idea of autonomy of Bessarabia being supported More broadly.
