The question of Bessarabia after the end of the Crimean War, occupied an important place in the foreign policy of the Great Powers.The Russian diplomacy wanted to solve the problem of Bessarabia before opening the congress of Paris. The Petersburg proposed a change of territory: Karsfor southern Bessarabia. Russian diplomats had meetings with Emperor Napoleon III, Count Walewski, Lord Clarendon, Count Cowley. The Paris Congress did not solve the Bessarabian question. A commission was formed to study in detail the route of the new border. |
