Rezumat

In recent years, overcoming the negative impact of climate change on the productivity of cultivated plants and the creation of tolerant genotypes have become one of the strategic goals in agriculture. In that context, IFVCNS breeding teams work intensely on finding innovative solutions to the main problems and challenges facing science and agriculture in the 21st century - climate change, environmental protection and sustainable crop production. In climate-smart crop breeding programmes IFVCNS researchers use innovative and high-throughput solutions for the exploitation of the existing and creation of the new genetic variability of field crops, creation of superior genotypes and transfer and implementation of new knowledge and technologies. In period 2016-2020 researchers involved in climate-smart crops programmes created 23 technical solutions, and released 9 commercial varieties at the international level and 14 varieties at the national level. They have also registered 129 varieties at the international level and 75 varieties at the national level. Results of IFVCNS researchers related to the creation of different genotypes adapted to environmental conditions and tolerant to stress caused by climate change, confirm the capability of IFVCNS research team to achieve objectives of the Horizon Europe program and the European Green Deal strategy.
