Rezumat

The sustainable development of vegetable growing requires a permanent study on the level of production, creation of new varieties and hybrids, elaboration and implementation of methods and technologies of seed production, able to ensure a production with high biological value and competitiveness in conditions of water and energy resources deficiencies. The market economy has conditioned the reduction of scientific activity in varieties and hybrids creation. Studies of improvement and production of superior categories seeds decreased, as well as the maintenance of the cultural qualities of the approved varieties. Improvement works regarding cabbage, carrot, beetroot, onion crops have been abandoned. Under the limit of efficiency, the works of improvement and production of seeds for pumpkins and vegetables are carried out. The breeding process must be continued with special seed multiplication work in quantities required by the agricultural units. Currently, 733 varieties of vegetables and potatoes are approved and included in the Register of Plant Varieties of the Republic of Moldova. Due to the low ecological plasticity of the varieties introduced from other geographical areas, the weak resistance to diseases and pests, the productive potential is achieved at the level of 30-40%. Creating new tolerant and / or resistant varieties and hybrids to pathogens and pests becomes a primary task. The lack of low temperature-resistant varieties for heatloving species (tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, cucumbers, melons) requires the production of vegetables by the method of seedling with additional energy costs, which leads to increased costs and decreased production competitiveness. In the absence of drought-resistant varieties with low moisture requirements, high irrigation standards have to be applied, which are also expensive. The gaps in controlling system on seed production and marketing links leads to the invasion of the market with seeds of unsatisfactory biological purity and cultural value, unacceptable phytosanitary status, being included in the commercial circuit as a semi-finished product, with low productivity, uniformity and quality. The revitalization of vegetable growing requires the development of a complex of organizational, scientific and agrotechnical measures, aimed to ensure the market and export opportunities with their variety and quality, determining the links of production of high qualified and certified categories of seeds, as well as their traceability and marketing.
