Rezumat

Aim: to asses the correlation between BMI (body mass index) and ACPA subtypes of RA (rheumatoid arthritis), aiming to show that adipose tissue represents a risk factor in RA. Material and method: A prospective, analitical study was performed in University Clinic of Rheumatology Tg. Mures (01.03.2008-04.04.2008 – on going). The target population was represented by the patients diagnosed with RA according with ACR criteria. A number of 44 patients met the inclusion criterias. A correlation between the BMI (body mass index) and acute phase reactants was established: ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate, CRP (Creactive protein), anti CCP antibodies and DAS28 (Disease Activity Score). Results: We were unabled statistically to established a link between the BMI and anti CCP antibodies p=0.6000 (r=0.006605, Pearson r=-0.08127, 95%IC=-0.3693 to 0.2210). a similar outcome was achieved between the BMI and DAS28 (p=0.8138, r=0.001336, Pearson r=-0.03655, 95%IC=0.3299 to 0.2633). We found instead a statistically correlation between ESR and DAS28 p=0.0835 (p≤0.05). Conclusions: We couldn’t find a positive, strong association between the BMI and the outcome of RA.
