Background. The UN's 2030 agenda is a defining framework for global sustainable development, scientific research being primordial in supporting this approach. These coordinates extend the roles of academic libraries, essential institutions in providing access to research. Objective of the study. Examine the role and current and possible contributions of the agricultural scientific library in supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals in the field of Agriculture, Food Industry and Environment, in the context of open research. Material and Methods. The study was based on data and information collected from observations, analysis of activity reports, individual interviews of teachers, PhD students, Bachelor’s and Master’s degree students concerning the activities, products and services provided by the Republican Scientific Agricultural Library of SAUM. Results. The Scientific Agricultural Library, concentrating on the nationalized global targets of the 2030 Agenda in the fields of reference, implements various services, with a focus on supporting and promoting open agricultural research. The concerns of the library are considered opportune and useful by the community served, who strongly appreciate the personalized services. Developing users’ information literacy skills and also librarians’ skills is vital. Advocacy and awareness-raising of decision-makers, as well as the involvement of agricultural practitioners in the target group, would increase public awareness about global objectives. Conclusion. The Scientific Agricultural Libraries, promoting open access to research, fully contribute to advancing the efforts of researchers in achieving the goals of sustainable development. Libraries must seize all opportunities: quality resources, advanced skills and relevant technologies. |
