Background. Vitamins are organic nutrients essential for life. Each of them has specific functions in the body that make them unique and irreplaceable. Therefore, the lack of vitamins leads to metabolic dysfunctions and related diseases. Objective of the study. To explore vitamins` importance in human diet; to highlight data related to impact of vitamin deficiency on the population worldwide. Material and Methods. In the study were used such methods as analysis, synthesis, and generalization. Also, the information from international health organizations database about the impact of vitamin deficiency on people’s health was examined. Results. The information from the database of international health organizations showed that vitamin deficiency was a major public health problem worldwide in all age groups in the last decade. More than two billion of people suffered from micronutrient deficiency globally. Nevertheless, pregnant women and children were at greatest risk of developing deficiencies. Conclusion. There is a need to find efficient ways to solve world poor nutrition problems and provide people with appropriate information referring to natural vitamins sources. |
