Background. In Romanian linguistics the interest in eponyms is a moderate one, given that, formed from the proper names, this category of common names has adapted so well that no reference is made to anthroponyms. This fact is particularly evident in the medical domain, where the eponymes are quite numerous. Objective of the study. The paper demonstrates the formation of eponyms, their typology, also the place of Romanian eponyms in a international lexicography. Material and Methods. Research in the field of eponimes, medical ones in particular, in Romanian linguistics is insignificant, therefore the study was focused on the analysis of dictionaries, articles, monographs in English, as well as existing Romanian researches. Results. Eponyms have been studied in various articles from a non-linguistic perspective, which has aroused controversy over their role and place in the spheres of use, such as medicine. Here the diversity of eponyms can be classified into several semantic categories. And, given provided that they come from a proper name, in the process of transition, they undergo certain orthographic, semantic and grammatical changes. However, in medical terminology, a special role in the development of the eponymous vocabulary is played by researchers and scientists, who have left their mark on their own name both locally and internationally. Conclusion. Eponyms are words with a special historical and cultural value, which are often omitted, lost or ignored by dictionaries and specialized studies. In medical researches in recent years, there is evidence of a noticeable decrease in the use of this nominative technique in medicine. |
