Rezumat

The creative valorification of literary traditions has recently become a field of multiple investigations within the body of comparative literature. The topic is of much interest to me and I have set myself the goal to identify the role attributed to each, by approaching various opinions of some wellknown last century critics, as well as some contemporary ones from our country. The accent lays not so much on the tradition itself as on its masterful assimilation in a writer’s own creation. Many literary critics would stress nowadays the skillful deviation from traditional norms and conventions, or the assimilation of traditions by another individual creative genius and its adaptation to another social dimension, and cultural space. In conclusion one can say that both factors are important, everyone would persist in the conviction that the tradition needs to be preserved and its eventual perpetuation is to be assured, as well as any novelist has to contribute with its own individual talent to the creation of a new piece of art.
