Background. Electrical injuries are included in the category of extremely serious injuries, which involve a reserved vital prognosis and an increased prognosis of disability. Correctly selected surgical treatment in association with a general treatment, increases the chances of survival of these patients. Objective of the study. To study the surgical techniques applied to patients with electrical injury and to select the most effective ones. Material and Methods. The work was performed on a group of 31 patients admitted to the hospital of Orthopedics and Traumatology in the period 2015-2019. The following data were analyzed: surgical techniques applied in the treatment, associated postoperative complications, antibiotic therapy used etc. Results. Of the total number of patients, in 27 cases extensive wound debridement of the injury was done, in the first hours after hospitalization. 14 patients required additional decompression incisions on the underlying skin and fascia. In 4 cases of the total number signs of carbonization of the affected segment were visible, therefore they were subjected to an emergency amputation. In 13 cases of 27 were included in the category “delayed emergency”, the decision was made to amputate the respective segment. Conclusion. Electric injury is a severe cause of disability but at the same time a challenge for reconstructive surgery, which restores damaged structures, therefore improving the aesthetic and psychological appearance of patients. |
