Education is known in all cultures to have great importance in the personal and moral development of a person and in the formation of society. Arts instruction as part of formal education is a significant part in the development and flourishing of an advanced, value-laden society. The importance of including arts in the curriculum is reinforced by the Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences, which claims that learning the different arts enables pupils to develop their entire array of intelligences, to express them through the artistic work and even strengthen other school areas through them. The uniqueness of the art of dance, on which this article focuses, is in the fact that it enables pupils to develop on all of their dimensions – the cognitive, the emotional and the physical, thus allowing for the perfection of an especially wide array of intelligences. |
