Background. Alcohol consumption continues to be a priority issue for the governments and sanitary systems of different states. Reducing the likelihood of excessive alcohol consumption can only be achieved through the education of the younger generations, reflecting the real damage to health. Objective of the study. The primary purpose of the study is to assess the consumption of alcoholic beverages among young people and to prove the harm caused by alcohol consumption. Material and Methods. The research was conducted within the project “Risky behaviors regarding the health of young people. Psycho-medical study” (Romania-Republic of Moldova), using the online questionnaires, throughout 2018. The questionnaires were answered by young residents from the Republic of Moldova. Results. The study involved 74 young people, with the average age of 20.7±0.06 years (range 18-30 years). Women - 77%, men - 23%. 33.8% live in urban areas, and 66.2% in rural areas. Out of the total respondents, 81.1% are married. Young people drank alcohol for the first time for various reasons: 67.6% - curiosity; 18.9% - peer pressure; 9.5% - under the influence of an adult; 4.1% - out of boredom. Alcoholic beverages were consumed 3-4 times in 5.4% out of the cases, at the end of the week - 8.1%, only on special occasions - 86.5%. In 13.5% of the cases, due to drinking, young people are not well focused or have problems at work/school. Conclusion. Our study highlighted that the problem of alcohol consumption among young people persists. Excessive alcohol consumption has had a negative impact on the psycho-emotional state of young people. This problem should be studied and special educational programs for youngsters require development. |
