Background. Currently in Republic of Moldova the specific therapy for people with autism is not offered free of charge. Families have to support the full financial burden for granting the qualified aid to patients with autism, and the measures taken by the state are often insufficient. Objective of the study. Arguing the necessity to respect the principle of distributive equity of children with autism in specialized medical services funded by the state, improving the knowledge of health workers about this disease. Material and Methods. Sources from medicine, medical and social bioethics. The methods that were applied: analytic-descriptional, bioethical, statistical and sociological. Results. On average, one of 150 children in the world is affected by autism. In Republic of Moldova the number of cases has increased, from 220 in 2013 to 366 in 2016 and about 530 in 2018. The cost of specialized treatment varies between 16,000 and 32,000 lei per month. In our country, the principle of equity in treating children with such disorders is constantly violated. The protection of the legitimate rights of this category of vulnerable persons requires an active involvement of state institutions, a harmonious cooperation between medical and educational systems and ensuring a favorable environment for multilateral development. Conclusion. From a bioethical perspective, it is necessary for patients with autism to be treated as complex personalities who need continuous support from the state and community members, counteracting any form of discrimination and ignorance, ensuring equal chances in providing medical care. |
