Background. The symptoms of allergic rhinitis, which are persistent for a long time, can significantly disrupt the quality of life not only of the child but also of his family, being a significant financial burden for both the family and society as a whole, thus determining its importance. Objective of the study. The aim of the paper was to evaluate the quality of life of children with allergic rhinitis in view of developing a set of measures for its improvement. Material and Methods. This scientific research is a descriptive, selective, nonexperimental clinical trial with a cohort that included 151 children with confirmed diagnosis of allergic rhinitis. The research was conducted based on a standardized questionnaire to assess the quality of life of children with allergic rhinitis developed by Professor Elizabeth Juniper, MCSP, MSc. and translated by Carmen Posoiu. Results. The study carried out to assess the quality of life of children with allergic rhinitis identified: tiredness/exhaustion that bothered the children – (70.0%) cases; headaches that bothered the children – (57.60%) cases; inability to perform an activity (i.e. educational) as well as habitually that bothered the children – (53.0%) cases. The results of life quality assessment of members of families with children suffering from allergic rhinitis are the following: out of all parents, 39.10% confirmed that they had self-treated their child; affordability of child’s selftreatment was declared by 30% of respondents. Conclusion. To identify the impact of allergic rhinitis on the quality of life of children and their family members, which shall serve as support in developing prevention, diagnosis and treatment measures among these patients. |
