Background. Globally, cancer is the most common cause of morbidity and mortality. Annually more than 300,000 children are diagnosed with cancer, of which 100,000 die. In the Republic of Moldova annually 400 families report that the quality of life in general or in some compartments is low. Objective of the study. Studying the quality of life aspects of children with oncological pathologies. The research hypothesis was that children with oncological diseases suffer from several reasons that have a major impact on all spheres of activity of the cell of society. Material and Methods. In the winter of 2020, the cross-sectional, selective study was carried out within the onco-pediatrics and hematology departments of the republican-level institution through the standardized questionnaire of WHO PedsQL. The sample included 45 children aged 5-18 years and parents, information agreements on data confidentiality were signed, without disclosure of personal data. Results. The families of the patients in the sample were distributed according to the living environment: 87% from the rural area and 13%urban. The surveyed children were included in the following age groups: 5-7 years- 24%; 8-10 years20%; 11-13 years - 16%; 14-16 years- 28%; 17 years- 12%. The results of the questionnaire: pain71,71%(CI: 95%; 58,25 - 85,17); nausea- 71,58%(95CI: 55,38- 87,78); procedural anxiety- 66,67% (CI: 95%; 48,20- 85,14); treatment anxiety- 81,14%(95CI: 67,29- 94,99); worry- 59,65%(95CI: 41,1978,11), cognitive problems- 66,84% (95CI: 51,26- 82,42), perceived physical appearance - 53,51% (95CI: 34,61-72,41); communication- 69,3% (95CI: 51,4- 87,2). Conclusion. The results of the PedsQL questionnaire show a low level of quality of life for children with cancer. It has been shown that the disease and treatment have a major impact on all areas of activity and of course leave traces on a physical and mental level on the patient and other family members. |
