Background. Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most common neurodegenerative disorder. As the prevalence of AD increases, the searching for specific biomarker has become increasingly important. The most explored CSF biomarkers, are the level of proteins:β-amyloid(Abeta),total-tau(t-tau), phosphorylated-tau(p-tau). Objective of the study. Research of CSF biomarkers, that could provide early information for AD diagnosis. Material and Methods. Literature review study using database PubMed has been performed. In the search process keywords –„markers of Alzheimer’s disease” , „Abeta”, „t-tau” and „P-tau” have been used. Results. Being in direct contact with the brain, CSF is an ideal source of biomarkers which can reveal biochemical changes, starting with asymptomatic period of AD. These changes are closely related to the knowledge of the pathophysiology of AD and may report a conversion from mild cognitive impairment to AD. This standpoint confirms the priority of CSF biomarkers in early diagnosis and risk developing AD. Several studies have shown the reduction of Abeta1-42 and the increasement of t-tau and f-tau protein in CSF in patients with BA. Some studies have shown greater efficacy of Abeta 1-42/1-40 and 1-42/1-38 ratios. Conclusion. At the moment, for diagnosis of AD, CSF markers have the highest specificity and sensitivity. |
