Background. Ankylosing spondylitis is a condition with an insidious onset, which mainly affects young patients, with progressive evolution. Lung damage is a manifestation that occurs later and influences the quality of life and prognosis of these patients through the phenomens of ventilatory dysfunction. Objective of the study. Determining the frequency of pulmonary pathologies in ankylosing spondyloarthritis. Material and Methods. We investigated 40 patients with a mean age of approximately 38 years with a diagnosis of ankylosing spondylitis, according to the modified New York 1984 criteria. Average age of onset of the disease - 30.5 years Average duration of the disease - 6.8 years. HLA-B27 antigen was detected in 66.4% of patients. The activity of the disease according to the BASDAI index was 4.6 ± 2.0. Results. Among the pulmonary lesions, a high frequency was noted for pulmonary emphysema and diffuse interstitial infiltrates, the incidence of pulmonary emphysema was 37.5%, and 33.3% for diffuse interstitial fibrosis, and bronchiectasis in patients with AS was 29.2 %, with a higher frequency in stage III 37.5%, and the highest incidence, identified in cases in stage IV, 62.5%. Conclusion. In patients with ankylosing spondyloarthritis, a high frequency of pulmonary pathology was observed in the advanced stages of the disease. |
