Background. Aeroallergens are proteins derived from plants and animals that have the ability to generate an IgE-mediated immune response in sensitized individuals. Aeroallergen sensitization is the key link in the pathogenesis of respiratory allergies (allergic rhinitis, asthma, allergic conjunctivitis). Objective of the study. Assessment of the aeroallergen sensitization profile of adult patients with allergic rhinitis in the Republic of Moldova. Material and Methods. The study included a group of 104 adults with allergic rhinitis (RA), interviewed through an online questionnaire created using Google Forms platform, distributed on social networks in May 2020. Respondents were asked about symptoms, their severity and periodicity, the confirmed sensitizations to aeroallergens and the given treatment. Results. Female ratio replies consists of 81.7%. Reported symptoms: sneezing - 92.3%, nasal obstruction - 88.5%, rhinorrhea - 85.6% of cases. 93.1% of respondents reported ocular manifestations, and 70% of respondents reported manifestations suggestive of asthma. The sensitization profile to aeroallergens outlined the following: ragweed - 80.8% of cases; trees with early flowering 31.7% of cases; wormwood - 18.3% of cases; trees with late flowering - 17.3% of cases; mites - 34.6% of cases; mold (A.fumigatus, Alternaria) - 17.3% of cases; cat epithelium - 15.4%; dog epithelium 8.7%. Sensitization to cereal pollen was reported in 6.7% of cases. Conclusion. Ragweed, wormwood, tree pollen, house dust mites are among the most common aeroallergens incriminated in the induction and maintenance of clinical manifestations in patients with seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis. Manifestations of asthma require a respiratory function assessment. |
