Background. Osteoarthritis (OA) is one of the most common joint disorders that have a significant impact on patients' lives. It is proved to be one of the leading causes to physical disability. The impact of knee OA on patients' lives has not been well studied in the Republic of Moldova. Objective of the study. To analyze the self-assessment of quality of live and joint functionality in patients with knee osteoarthritis. Material and Methods. Patients fulfilling ACR criteria were eligible for participation in this trial if they had experienced clinical symptoms of knee OA at least 3 months before inclusion into the study. The patient’s QoL was assed using the EQ-5D questionnaire with its five dimensions (EQ5D-5L): mobility, self-care, usual activities, pain/discomfort and anxiety/depression. Statistics: tstudent Results. The study integrated 30 patients out of which 23 females, mean age 61.2 11.65, with disease duration 14.83 7.03. The EQ-5D-5L results identified that on average 67% of patients encountered problems in all five dimensions, 96% had difficulties with mobility, 71.4% with self-care and 92.6% with usual activities,pain level, 96.4% of patients registered issues the intensity of pain varying from slight pain (6.67%) to moderate pain (46.67%), severe pain (40.00%) and even extreme pain (3.33%). Level of anxiety and depression, was identified in 89.2% cases. The impact of osteoarthritis is directly correlated with age, older people registering more severe and extreme problems. Conclusion. Osteoarthritis can profoundly affect many aspects of the life, including physical and mental well-being; women seem to be more susceptible than men. A positive correlation with age was registered. |
