Background. Chickenpox is a highly contagious respiratory disease that is clinically characterized by a vesicular rash that occurs in waves and most often evolve in mild to moderate forms, but can lead to severe complications such as encephalitis, pneumonia and other bacterial complications. Objective of the study. Determination of chickenpox morbidity in multiannual dynamics and by age in the Republic of Moldova. Material and Methods. Chickenpox morbidity data from Form 2, Epidemiological Bulletin of Infectious Diseases were analyzed. Indices as morbidity, multiannual dynamics of morbidity, morbidity by age, gender were analyzed and calculated. The data obtained were statistically analyzed using Microsoft Excel and represented by tables and graphs. Results. During the years 2004-2018, there was an increase in chickenpox morbidity from 245,24‱ in 2004 to 355,7‱ in 2016 with a decrease to 262,26‱ in 2019. Among children, the minimum morbidity was in 2010 – 8,74‰, and the maximum in 2016 – 17,03‰. In adults, the maximum morbidity was only 0,40‰ in 2016, and the minimum in 2010 – 0,16‰. Depending on the age groups, the most affected were children 3-6 years, the maximum morbidity was in 2016 – 41,95‰, and the minimum in 2010 – 25,14‰. In urban areas, the maximum morbidity was in 2016 – 355,30‰, and in rural areas – 221,68‰. Conclusion. Chickenpox is a major public health due to possible complications and intense spread especially among children. |
