The article provides some evidences of negative impacts of foreign direct investment (FDI) on the economic development in the developing countries which attract FDI in labor-intensive and extractive industries. A variety of international initiatives to mitigate the negative FDI impacts have been collected and described in the article. The majority is intended to increase transparency and social standards. Some of them, including Extractive Industries Initiative, appeared after the world economic and financial crisis of 2008-2009. |
