Rezumat

d. The wedding event has always been and remains an irrevocable occasion for showing the most beautiful image, which will remain immortalized in the family photo album and certainly in memories for the whole life. For centuries in a row, the wedding costume was regarding the general traditions, that were interspersed with the specifics of the cultures and had an individual character. Many things have changed with the technical progress which began in the middle of the 19th century and which directly influenced a faster development of the fashion by mechanizing the sewing process and through the new media means, in particular – fashion shows and magazines, illustrations and photos. Parisian couture houses influenced European trends in the first half of the twentieth century, and the silhouette of the wedding costume faithfully followed the general fashion changes. A common meaning which was accepted in European countries during this period constituted the white color of the wedding dress as a symbol of innocence and the classic and sober suit of the groom. From the very beginning of the 20th century, the silhouettes and proportions of the costume began to change very quickly,in especial the dresses, which from the corset and long skirt worn by women for centuries in a row, including the early twentieth century, became incredibly short and bold in the Charleston era, to be extended again in the era of the great depression. Throughout the century, social, cultural and political events have left their mark on the evolution of the wedding dress, which has undergone changes in silhouette, fabrics and accessories almost every decade. This research will clarify the transformations that the urban wedding costume of Moldova had to pass through, in the Interwar Period.
