Rezumat

New audio-video media are increasingly present in language classes, and among these, the film has a privileged place. The film is a widely used entertainment product, but its didactic use in the Romanian language classes is often limited to a secondary status of exemplification or reward. In this paper, we start from the well-known fact that the film, although being a special teaching aid in terms of the development of linguistic and non-linguistic skills, is not exploited at its true value in textbooks or RFL auxiliaries. This is why we consider being essential to insist on this tool and its potential for didactic exploitation. Therefore, we aim at showing that a methodical approach to film would allow its profitable use for both language learning and intellectual reflection. From this perspective, we will first examine how language teaching justifies the use of film as a teaching tool and what its contributions are as an authentic material. Then, we will present the advantages of using film as a linguistic resource and basis for developing the concept of interculturality. Finally, we believe that we must present the limits of this approach and identify precautions that we must take in preparing the teaching sequences built on the basis of the film. Indeed, as we will see, it is important for the teacher to take into account certain guidelines in order to use the film in a conscious and responsible manner.
