Rezumat

The paper is focused on visual interpretations of the old-time traditions which in recent years entered the Representative list of UNESCO Intangible Heritage of Humanity. There are considered selectively medium-size and small-size half-tone depictions, either photographs or color drawings, from picturebooks and stamps. In the illustrations discussed here, three cultural phenomena are represented: 1) Men’s group Colindat. Christmas-time ritual; 2) Traditional wall-carpet craftsmanship; 3) Mărţişor as cultural practice associated to the 1st of March. Not only visual appearance, but also the body and essence of the practices is briefl y introduced to an international audience. Respectively, there are provided secondary literary sources on both traditions and illustrated pieces, on the historical directions of ethnographic research in Republic of Moldova, on the most important picture books issued in the postwar period, on the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.
