Rezumat

Non-formal education refers to all those activities that are carried out outside the school environment and that tend to develop the abilities, intellectual faculties and moral faculties of individuals. The term non-formal education was born from the need to satisfy the demand that society demanded for education, in 1960. At present, we find that the school continues to occupy an important place in society, firstly because the school is only one of the most multiple means through which a circumstantial teaching-learning process is promoted, and secondly, because the framework institutional and school methodology are not always so ideal as to cover all educational needs and requirements, which, without ceasing, continue to appear. Therefore, the need arose to create new means and new educational environments, functionally complemented by the school, and which were called „non-formal” and thus appeared as adapted to the pedagogical language, the term „non-formal education”. In the first instance, specific to non-formal education is the place where it takes place: in an institutionalized setting, but outside the school. Characteristic of this type of education are the activities that contribute to individual development. Non-formal education is divided into 2 main types, varying depending on the specific activities: – extradidactic activities: discipline circles, sports and artistic ensembles, competitions, Olympics etc. – extracurricular activities: ecology and civic training projects, excursions, socio-cultural actions (in the students’ club, at the museum, at the theater, in libraries etc.) Non-formal education successfully accompanies the educational training of young people and remains one of the optimal options for sustaining the pleasure of knowledge and professional affirmation.
